I have to disagree - the subject of rape can be harmful and triggering itself, and this stance sets up a huge grey area that can be easily misconstrued and abused.
yeah i actually agree with you. they can be harmful and triggering even under the “acceptable” rubric i laid out, which is why while i sometimes find jokes on the subject funny, or at least thought provoking, i don’t really share them, and i don’t think if i was a comedian i’d ever feel comfortable making one myself. i only feel semi comfortable even being ok with them at all, to be honest. my opinion might very well change in the future. what’s more, had i ever been sexually assaulted/raped i would probably feel quite differently about jokes on the topic, which speaks to my being ok with them definitely coming from a position of privilege/some selfishness. it’s definitely not my place to tell other people whether they should think some rape jokes are funny or not, i just recognize that in my specific case, they don’t always offend. in the end, though, i would honestly be ok with the subject of rape disappearing from all comedy, and wouldn’t lament the loss of the rare acceptable (to me) rape joke if it meant the end to all of them, and a much larger group of people feeling more comfortable/safe.
